Mashrafe raising his bat to the crowd after hitting a blistering hundred
Mashrafe Mortaza smashed a blistering hundred today at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah. His swashbuckling innings, adding to Masakadza’s all-round effort helped Kalabagan Krira Chakra to their second win of the season.
Being invited to bat first, Kalabagan KC made a good start. Shadman and Jashimuddin were adding up quick runs on board, but Shadman was out in the sixth over for 17. Following this wicket, there was a 71-run stand between Jashimuddin and Masakadza. Masakadza was playing beautifully, picking up singles and attacking the ball when needed. He hit 2-each fours and sixes in his 45-run knock and was dominating the play the long he was present.
Jashimuddin also added some vital 54 runs with Tasamul Haque, who scored 33 runs. Jashimuddin departed shortly afterwards, playing a resilient innings of 64 runs. And with his departure came in Mashrafe Mortaza, a little up the order, to run carnage on the Sheikh Jamal bowlers.
Mashrafe started off with three dots, then a four and a six, but did not shift gears yet. He was dealing with singles and doubles mostly, until off the 18th delivery he faced, he hit the second six. Mashrafe and Mehrab Hossain added 60 runs between them, off which Mehrab scored only 13! Mashrafe added another 72 runs with Sharifullah, and this is the partnership where the Kalabagan skipper was at his deadliest.
The Fatullah skies were cloudy, but the real storm was happening inside the ground. Mashrafe first blasted Muktar Ali for three sixes in an over. And then he hit Wahidul Alam for three consecutive sixes and a fourth one off the last ball. He scored his fifty off 35 balls, and then his next 54 runs came off just 15 deliveries! He also brought up his hundred with a massive six, but was out the next ball he faced.
Kalabagan Krira Chakra were 249-5 after 45 overs, and off the next 5 overs, due to that storm off Mashrafe’s bat, the side added 67 runs! Mashrafe hit an overall off 11 sixes in his innings, and only 2 fours. Shohag Gazi, despite this carnage, bowled brilliantly to give away only 39 runs in his 10 overs, bagging two wickets as well.
The chase started off with the fall of a wicket off the third ball of the innings and Mashrafe was the one who gave that early blow to Sheikh Jamal. Mahbubul Karim was dismissed for naught, but following this came a 71-run stand between Abdullah Al Mamun and Shohag Gazi. Both were dismissed in the forties eventually, and Masakadza was the one bagging their wickets. Masakadza went on to take two more wickets and was the pick of the Kalabagan bowlers, 10-0-37-4.
Mahmudullah could not do much with the bat today, scored only 27. And then the surprising bit of runs came up, a 74-run stand between Zabid Hossain and Muktar Ali. Muktar Ali scored the lion share of the runs, bringing up his fifty and playing an innings of 51 runs off 38 balls. But what was more astonishing was the last wicket stand between Zabid and Wahidul.
Zabid brought up his fifty and stayed not out at 52 at the end of the match. Wahidul hit 6 sixes in scoring a blistering 49 runs off just 27 balls. 70 runs came off just 38 balls in the end. Mashrafe bowled a sixth over, and almost got the last wicket with his off-spin, if Nihad hadn’t dropped the catch at long off. Kalabagan Krira Chakra won by 21 runs in the end, stopping at 295, losing the last wicket off the last ball of the match.
Mashrafe was the Player of the Match for his maiden List-A century and a record-breaking one. The 50-ball ton is the fastest by a Bangladeshi in List-A cricket.

The other two matches
Brothers Union vs Cricket Coaching School, Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka
Shahriar Nafees’ 134-run innings, followed by some good bowling from the bowlers helped Brothers Union to a 38-run win over Cricket Coaching School.
Being sent to bat first, a 108-run opening stand set up the platform for a decent score to be put up on board. Imrul Kayes missed out his fifty for just one run, but the rest of the side could not bat well to score some supportive runs to Nafees, resulting in the team total being held back to 253-6. Saleh Ahmed Shawon Gazi ended with excellent bowling figures for CCS, 10-0-45-4.
Pinak Ghosh failed again to score some vital runs for his side when needed and Amit majumder was also kept silent from the start. Another 100+ runs were being put up by Saif Hassan and Salman Hossain, but these contributions did not prove sufficient enough for CCS, as they went unsupported from the rest of the side. Saif played another brilliant innings, scoring 86 on this occasion, while Salman, being on the slower side, scored 68. CCS was all out for 215. Shahriar Nafees was the Player of the Match.
Kalabagan Cricket Academy vs Gazi Group Cricketers, BKSP Ground 3, Savar
Alok Kapali’s 10-1-44-5 held Kalabagan back to 186 all out in their innings. Jatin and skipper Mahmudul Hasan contributed 40-odd runs for their side in the process. Saeed Anwar and Mustafizur took 2 each, while Moinul took the other one.
The chase was completed with 58-balls and 8 wickets to spare. Gazi openers were yet again the contributors for their side with another fifty run stand. Anamul was out for 29, but Shamus continued with his good form, and scored an unbeaten 95 today. He hit a six to win it for his side, when only 1 was required, but 5 for his century, which was cancelled by the no-ball bowled by Abdul Halim.
Some arguments were set up in the middle due to this, but in the end it was the win for Gazi that mattered most for Shamsur. Alok Kapali was the Player of the Match for the five-wicket haul.
